Sound designer for Texas Tech’s Xanadu.

Xanadu is the stage musical adaptation of the cult classic film of the same name. The unapologetically 80s world is heightened with music written by the one and only Electronic Light Orchestra, filling this performance with synth solos and disco tunes. Sound needed to coordinate closely with projections and lights, all accompanying a 5-person band on our moving band platform.

This production involved me managing a band, mic-ing all cast members, utilizing multiple microphone effects and manipulating field recordings from sound libraries. This production also incorporated more complex programming through Spacemap Go in order to place sounds in the space

Sample Highlights

Neonlympus

The characters of this show are magical, but I wanted the magic of this world to be aesthetically appropriate for the show. As such, all of the magic in this musical consisted of sine wave synth, pads circa 1980.

This particular cue is the background to the scenes in Mount Olympus. A bright synth drone and wind effects bring to mind an angelic local, while energetic synthesizer effects swirl around the space.

Composed with logic pro.
