Sound designer for Texas Tech’s Three Penny Opera.

For those unfamiliar with Brecht’s work, the plays by this author are designed to comment on the audience’s relationship with theater itself, and shock them into a disillusioned state. Brecht wanted the audience to know that they weren’t watching a story, but instead figures miming out a false narrative for the sake of an observer. As such, the sound in this show highlighted the unreality of this play; ambient sounds cut in and out with no diegetic cause, sounds of applause were played around the audience, and the actors physically stepped out of the action to a standing microphone for the songs.

This production involved me managing a band, mic-ing all cast members, and manipulating field recordings from sound libraries.

This was also my first production in the Maedgen Theater at Texas Tech University since its renovation, which introduced a brand new audio system with SpaceMapGO integration.

This project was presented at Kennedy Center American Collage Theatre Festival in 2024. Scroll to the bottom to see the poster.
